Mirabelle de Lorraine

You're in for a Treat

The Mirabelle de Lorraine is a plum or prune-like fruit held in high regard in France. In fact, every August, the city of Metz holds a two-week festival dedicated to it. Descended from a wild fruit originally found in Turkey, the festival sells the fresh prunes, tarts, and liquor made from the fruit during live music and exhibitions. The particular taste is vibrant and powerful in sweets, desserts, and liquor. This small, dark yellow fruit grows chiefly in Lorraine, where more than 15,000 tons are grown each year, which is 80 percent of the global production.
