Le Chateau de Versailles

You're in for a Treat

Le Château de Versailles is synonymous with French high culture. Louis XIII's old hunting pavilion was transformed and extended by his son, Louis XIV, to make it the penultimate symbol of the absolute monarchy of the Ancien Régime. Only 20 kilometres (12 miles) from Paris, it is an easy and worthwhile trip. You will not forget the royal gardens and decadent halls of this World Heritage Site. It is one of the greatest achievements in French 17th century art. It’s glitz and glamour comes from an age of luxury that needs to be seen to be believed, and outshines almost anything and everything else. Take your time to carefully investigate the 2,300 rooms spread over 63,154 square metres.
