Le Louvre

You're in for a Treat

Is there a more essentially French gallery than Le Louvre? It is almost a cliché, but it does ring true: you cannot miss a visit to Le Louvre if you want to get a true feel of Paris. The museum opened on 10 August 1793 and is now the world's second largest museum, the second most visited museum on earth, and a central landmark of Paris. Feel free to marvel at the collection housed in its ornate and impressive walls. It is divided among eight curatorial departments: Egyptian Antiquities; Near Eastern Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities; Islamic Art; Sculpture; Decorative Arts; Paintings; Prints and Drawings. We suggest giving yourself at least a full day to lose yourself in its magnificence.
